The Good End to a Bad Day
by Shana Nolan
*************************
Sitting on a barstool in the middle of the night in the center of a known vampire club, Natalie Lambert could care less that she was being sized up for a potential meal.It had been a bad day. No, it had been a rotten, stinking, horrible day.
Tapping the now empty glass of her third malt, she gestured for the bartender.
"Another one?"
"Yup."
"He still not here?"
"If I knew where he was, do you think I'd be here, thinking about getting his car towed?"
The bartender smiled sympathetically and poured into the glass. Nat nodded and took the opportunity to glance around the club... again.
The Raven was pretty abandoned at that time of night. A few of the die hard patrons lingered on the dance floor, gyrating to the loud music. But there was not a sign of a certain blonde vampire anywhere.
"Natalie... "
Nat glanced up, spotting a familiar face. "Janette."
"May I inquire why you're here?"
"Why not. The Caddy's out there and I've been trying to track Nick down for a few hours."
"Nicolas hasn't been here, tonight."
Nat sighed and stared at her glass. "Obviously."
"How about I take you to the office. You can call his portable phone."
"I'd like that." And with that, Nat Lambert stood up and followed behind the dark haired vampire to the back of the Raven. Reaching the office and settling into the seat behind the desk, she picked up the phone and dialed.
"Knight here."
"Nick, where the hell have you been?"
There was an audible pause on the other end of the phone. "Nat? Is everything okay?"
"No. I've been trying to reach you for hours, and your Caddy is here at the Raven."
" ...here?"
"Yes, here."
Nat could hear street sounds now, and the phone crackled. "Uh, I'll be there as soon as I can. I'm out with Schanke, I'll, uh, have him drop me off."
"'kay Bye." She sighed and hung up.
Janette regarded her carefully. "Stay back here. I'll get Miklos to start the fireplace. Want another malt, or maybe a coffee?"
"Thanks. Why don't you bring something weaker. I have be able to find my apartment."
Janette nodded, and left. Now alone in the room, staring at the unlit fireplace, Nat pulled her hair out of the bun, letting the curls spill over her shoulders. Sitting in the plush chaise, unbuttoning the jacket and peeling it off, she began to relax. The alcohol had begun to sink into her system, making the night's work get indistinct with intoxication. It was a unique and uncommon vacation from her reality.
She was off in her own world when Miklos came in with his armload of firewood. He cleared his throat discreetly and set to work. Upon finishing, he touched her arm gently, leaning in, his accented voice a throaty whisper. "Are you all right? May I get you anything?"
Nat shook her head. "I'll be fine. Thank you for the fire, it's lovely."
Miklos quirked a gaze at her. Most women who waited for their man weren't so... calm. But then she wasn't waiting for a normal man. "Are you sure?
"I hope so."
"I'll be out there if you need me."
It was a short time later when Nick finally arrived. Curled up in the chaise, her shoes and jacket strewn aside, Nat didn't notice him come in.
He stepped in almost timidly, knowing full well she was dozing lightly. Crossing the room, he kneeled down in front of her, sitting on his haunches between the chair and the fireplace.
"Natalie?"
She started, nearly leaping out of the chaise. Despite the fact that she knew his voice like the back of her hand, he still scared her. Well, that and she was mad at him. And she had been expecting him.
"Nat?"
"I... where've you been?"
"I'm sorry. Schanke tried to drag me to a Souvlaki stand."
"You could have called."
"I won't do it again?"
"Mmm-hmm."
"So, Nat," Nick touched her hand tentatively. "I'm here. What do you need?"
Trying desperately to ignore the boyish smile she was currently being given she gave a mock sigh. "Well, I had a question, but it's pointless now."
"Oh?"
"I wanted you to stop by the morgue."
"I'm here now."
"True." Those damn eyes of his were melting her attention span.
"Nat, are you paying attention?"
"No... not really... "
Nick laughed and stood up, slipping off his coat and suit jacket, the black shirt slightly wrinkled from a night's shift. Checking his watch, he furrowed his brows. "Its awfully close to sunrise."
Nat couldn't resist the barb. "Gee, I guess that means you can't leave and I can."
"It, uh, seems that way."
"So I guess I'll be going. See ya."
She actually got to the doorway before he ran up behind her and held her back. "Don't go."
"Ask me to stay."
"Please stay."
"Ask me to forgive you."
"Please forgive me."
"Ask me to sit."
"Nat... what are you doing?"
She crossed her arms. "Ask me to sit back down."
"Please sit back down."
Pleased with the turn of events, Nat sat back down in the plush chair, gesturing Nick to follow her. When he stood in front of her, she pointed towards the floor. "Sit."
Nick obeyed, not sure what was going on. She was either setting him up for a surprise joke or she was seducing him.
Either way she was winning.
"Sit."
Kneeling on the floor, he leaned forward, smiling and watching her face. His hand drifted up her leg, fingers dancing nimbly past her knee and coming to rest on her thigh.
A rush of fervent sensations flooded Nat's nerves. She had felt them before, when he had drifted close to her, whether accidentally or purposely. However on this night unlike the others, she wasn't going to fight them.
Tonight they were hers to enjoy.
His other hand drifted across her cheek, touching her cheek and then chin. She closed her eyes, letting the sensation of touch be her primary sense. When she leaned her head back, slowly exposing her neck, Nick knew she wanted him to continue.
His fingertips drifted down her front, alighting across the inner curves of her breasts tucked inside her blouse. Tickling across the buttons and down to the waist of her pants, he deliberately lingered at the fly button, observing every move she made, watching for a sign to stop and back off.
Which he was never given.
Nick paused. Here she was, giving herself over; and for some stupid, inane reason, he was hesitating. "Uh, Natalie?"
"Shut up and finish what you started."
"I don't think you understand... "
She kept her eyes closed, whispering, "I don't think I care." Moving her hand suddenly, she picked up his hand that had settled on her thigh and pushed it up further, his thumb mere inches away from what had to be now hotter than the fireplace. But she wasn't done yet.
Unbuttoning her blouse, she untucked it, letting it hang loose, the opening exposing the front center of her black bra ruthlessly teasing him.
But before Nick could move in to feast upon this new found treasure, she stood up, looming over him.
Running a hand through his soft blonde hair, she let her nails rake across his scalp. The only response she heard was a whimper. So stepping as close as she could, his face pressed literally up against her crotch, she pushed herself past the point of no return. And then she stepped away, walking behind the plush chair, watching his every movement.
Nick looked like he had just been hit by a car.
Loosing the pants, she dropped them to the floor. The black underwear now only covered her, the tails of her blouse sitting at the middle of her hips. Walking slowly, ever so deliberately to the desk, she perched up on the edge and gestured for Nick to come over.
If he could have run, he would have, but he was too shocked to think that clearly.
"Take off your shirt."
He unbuttoned and stripped the shirt off, exposing to the flickering firelight his now bare chest.
"Belt."
The belt was off in seconds, dropped to the floor.
"Come here."
Anxious, not sure what was next, Nick complied and came over to her, standing in between her knees as she split her legs to admit him closer.
He was so close, she could smell him. Placing a hand around his ribcage, she yanked him at close as he could be without knocking her over the desk. And then she kissed him.
Once on the chest, in that soft nest of curls, once on the throat, once on the forehead and finally, on the lips.
Pushing back against her mouth, first gingerly then forcefully, Nick pressed his body up against hers. She was warm, and he wanted nothing more than to possess that warm body. Wrapping his arms behind her, his hands drifted down her back, around the curve of her buttocks, past her hips, around her thighs, up her waist and down on to her sex. She was hot, wet and shifted amorously as her hand came down on her.
Gasping for needed air, she stayed where she was. Nick tried to pull back, quirking a eyebrow. "Nat?"
She placed a hand to his lips. "Shh." Running her other hand down his chest, she hooked fingers on his belt, lingering at the fly, waiting a painstaking moment for him before shoving a hand past the waistband. "Do unto others..."
He gasped and rocked into her hand, letting her cup him. Desire mounting violently inside of him, he moved his own hands to the waistband of her underwear, hooking his fingers on the edge and nearly ripping them off her.
Now exposed to the air, she smiled and kissed him once more, pulling her hand form his pants and pulling his face nearly into hers. Dropping his remaining clothes, he freed himself and pulled close to Nat's body again, hooking her legs around his waist, nearly pulling her off the desk. "Nat... "
Shut up and finish what you started." Reaching down between them, she grabbed him, guiding his member towards her willing, desperate vagina.
Sliding inside of her easily, he let a moan slip past his lips. Beginning to push in and out, moving against her, he realised for a full moment the raw passion he could have with her.
Nat threw her head back, breathing hard and fast, her nails digging into his back. Viscious, exquisite ardor, the agonising ecstasy sweeping over her mind and body, she held him close, trying to squeeze every burning moment out of the experience.
All too soon in her opinion, she could feel the end coming, the cruel completion she wanted nothing more than to delay until the next millennium. Nick's movements were harder now, stronger, almost too much for her, but she held on; if her body could endure this much, a little more roughness would
be worth the reward.A shudder wracked through Nick. He froze and the energy fled from his body.
Finally releasing her grip of him, Nat let him drop to the floor, shaking from spent exertion. Joining him on the floor a moment later, a throw now draped around her shoulders, she kissed his forehead. "I'm still not happy with you, you know."
Nick stared at her openly. "Wh-what? Why?"
She brushed a hand across his cheek. "You stole my parking space."
"Oh... I won't do it again."
"Good. So glad we cleared this up."
"Uh... yeah."
She smiled. What a perfect ending for a miserable day. "Love ya, Nick."
